The Kimono Tattoo by Rebecca Copeland takes us to the world of Ruth Bennett. An American translator living in Kyoto, Japan. Having traveled and lived there for much of her young life, Japan is where Rebecca feels most at home.
The Offer
One day, Ruth gets an unexpected offer to translate a novel from a Japanese writer. The author, was not a stranger to Ruth, as she had done some previous translations for him. She helped translate his novel, The Kimono Killer. The woman who made the offer and was to act as an intermediary between Ruth and the writer has some mystery about herself she is keeping close to her chest.
As Ruth accepts to do this translation job things start to happen. After the first murder upon receiving the draft of the new novel. Murders are being committed, as the fictional characters turn out to be people she knows, who have inquired about the Kimono Tattoo. Ruth takes it upon herself and her close work friend, Maho, to get to the bottom of the murders. This leads Ruth to come face to face with a dangerous killer and with that, Ruth finds out what truly happened many years ago that impacted her and her own family’s life.
CE’s Book Review of The Kimono Tattoo
My review is that Rebecca Copeland gives us two stories in one with The Kimono Tattoo. We see how the stories interweave beautifully making this a page-turner. About all the mystery that surrounds the Japanese writer and the murders that take place. This is where things quickly take a turn toward the unexpected, get ready. We see how big the real story is and how it surrounds Ruth Bennett all along. Healing does come at some point after Ruth uncovers the mystery with the help of her friends. From reconnecting with her family to falling in love. The narration for the audiobook version of this book was top-notch. Truly great narration from Theresa Bakken for this book.
