I’m Still Alive
This is the NEW book by Roberto Saviano. In this graphic novel style illustrated by Asaf Hanuka, you see various scenarios that have taken place while Saviano has been living under constant police protection.
How It Started
After his acclaimed novel Gomorrah, released over 15 years ago, Saviano’s life changed by simply telling the truth. For doing the right thing, for telling the truth, he has lived in a sort of prison while those who have committed crimes continue to threaten his life and continue to run freely.
Memories
I’m Still Alive takes you into some memories of Saviano. Memories I hope continue to give him the strength to live in this ironic way. It must be hard to not have done anything wrong and yet cannot live in the same place for “x” amount of time. People can no longer affiliate themselves with you. Where you go, and who you meet, it’s all scrutinized. It’s hard to make a life. It’s hard to live a life.
Surviving
Roberto Saviano, wants the world to know he’s still alive. I can say I did not have to read who wrote the book. I immediately knew it was him on the book cover and was drawn to it immediately. He is still battling isolation. The baffling sentiment of those who think his sacrifice equates to a life of luxury. Not understanding how serious the matter he encounters daily, a person would not last more than 12 hours. He explains how these questions, the accusations, and the life he has to live, affects him mentally and emotionally.
” I’m Still Alive” is a very vulnerable book. I see there was no other way to highlight his experience. Only by the graphic novel format, and the illustrations of Hanuka.
