Declutter and Organize

Spring cleaning is the perfect opportunity to declutter and organize your home.  Start by going through your closets, drawers, and cabinets to get rid of items you no longer need or use.  Donate or sell anything in good condition, and dispose of anything that’s broken or beyond repair.  Recycle if you can.  Organize your belongings in a way that makes sense to you, whether it’s by category, color, or frequency of use.  This will help you maintain a tidy home throughout the year.

Checklist:

  • Go through your closets, drawers, and cabinets
  • Donate, repair, or sell items in good condition
  • Dispose of or recycle broken or unusable items
  • Organize belongings by category, color, or frequency of use

Deep clean floors and carpets

Winter can take a toll on your floors and carpets, so give them some extra attention during your Spring cleaning routine.  Vacuum all carpets thoroughly, including under furniture and in corners.  Consider renting a carpet cleaner or hiring a professional to deep clean your carpets for a fresh start to the season.  That is if you don’t own a carpet cleaner already.  Sweep and mop hard floors, paying special attention to high-traffic areas and behind furniture.  If you have hardwood floors, consider giving them a polish to restore their shine.

Checklist

  • Vacuum all carpets, including under furniture and in corners
  • Consider renting a carpet cleaner or hiring a professional for deep cleaning (if not already owned)
  • Sweep and mop hard floors, paying attention to high-traffic areas and behind furniture
  • Polish hardwood floors, if applicable

Wipe Down Surfaces

Dust and grime can accumulate on surfaces throughout your home.  So give them a thorough wipe-down during your Spring cleaning.  Start with countertops, tables, and dressers, using a gentle cleanser that is suitable for the material.  Don’t forget to clean the top of your refrigerator, the inside of your microwave, and the fronts of your cabinets.  Dust and clean your light fixtures, ceiling fans, and window blinds.  Remember to also clean your electronic devices, such as your TV, computer, phone, or tablet to remove fingerprints and smudges.

Checklist

  • Wipe down countertops, tables, and dressers
  • Clean the top of the refrigerator, the inside of the microwave, and the fronts of the cabinets
  • Dust and clean light fixtures, ceiling fans, and window blinds
  • Clean electronic devices, such as TV, computer, phone, or tablet

Refresh Bedding and Upholstery

Spring is a great time to refresh your bedding and upholstery. Strip your beds and wash all bedding, including sheets, pillowcases, comforters, and any mattress protectors you might use. Consider airing out your mattresses and pillows in the fresh air to eliminate any musty odors. If the pillows need to be replaced, now is the perfect time to consider doing that.  Vacuum your mattresses and upholstery to remove dust mites and allergens. If you have removable cushion covers, wash them according to the manufacturer’s instructions. If not, use a fabric cleaner to spot clean any stains or spills.

This is the perfect time to go over your pillows and your duvets. Check if you need to update any of your bedding. If you’re looking for hypo-allergenic options check out Canadian Down & Feather. They are currently having a Sale*! For more information click the link:

Clean Windows and Mirrors

Winter weather can leave your windows and mirrors looking dull and dirty, so add them to your Spring cleaning checklist. Use a glass cleaner and a lint-free cloth to clean all windows and mirrors in your home, including those hard-to-reach ones. Pay attention to smudges, fingerprints, and water stains for a streak-free shine. Don’t forget to also clean window sills, tracks, and blinds/curtains for a complete window makeover.

Freshen up the Kitchen

The kitchen is often the heart of the home and can accumulate grime and grease over time. Give your kitchen a thorough spring cleaning by cleaning appliances, countertops, cabinets, and floors. Remove all items from your refrigerator and freezer, and clean the shelves, drawers, and door seals. Clean your oven, stovetop, and range hood, including filters. Wipe down your countertops, backsplashes, and cabinets with a gentle cleanser. Sweep and mop the floors, paying extra attention to corners and under appliances.

Tidy up the Outdoor Space

As the weather gets warmer, it’s time to freshen up your outdoor spaces as well. Sweep and hose down your front porch, back patio, and outdoor furniture. Clean your grill, if you have one, and check for any loose or broken boards on your deck or fence. Trim overgrown bushes and trees, and rake up any debris in your yard. Consider planting some flowers or adding some new outdoor decor to add a touch of freshness to your outdoor spaces.

  • Clean the grill and check for any damages on the deck or fence
