National Banana Bread  Day is a day to celebrate this classic and delicious treat. Loved by many for generations. It’s the perfect day to indulge in a slice of warm, freshly baked banana bread, and enjoy its sweet and comforting flavors.

The banana bread is believed to have originated in the United States during the Great Depression.  When resourceful bakers discovered that overripe bananas could be used to make delicious and inexpensive bread.  Another claim is that resourceful housewives did not wish to throw away the overripe bananas.  There is a theory for everyone.  What can be agreed on is that it was not seen in recipe books until the 1930s.  Today, banana bread is enjoyed all over the world and has become a staple in many households.

To celebrate National Banana Bread Day, try making your own homemade banana bread using the recipe below or your favorite recipe.  You could also experiment with adding different ingredients, such as chocolate chips, walnuts, or blueberries, to give your banana bread a unique twist.
